Military Law Practice
Bill McNutt is a retired Major in the United States Army Reserve. Originally commissioned in the Regular Army, following law school in 1973, he was promoted to the rank of Captain in the United States Army Judge Advocate General's Corp. He graduated in the 70th Basic Class from the United States Judge Advocate General School in Charlottesville, Virginia. He served on active duty from 1973 to 1977. His assignments were, first, as Government Appellate Counsel before the United States Army Court of Military Review (now the United States Army Court of Criminal Appeals) and the United States Court of Military Review, both in Washington, D.C. Second, he was assigned to the Office of Judge Advocate General at the Pentagon where he served in its Litigation Division, Military Personnel Branch. While there he specialized in Army military personnel discharge cases. He represented the government in cases pending before the Army Board for Correction of Military Records (ABCMR), United States Court of Claims, and numerous federal district courts and federal courts of appeal.
He is also a graduate of the Unites States Army Judge Advocate General's School Advanced Course and the United States Army Command and General Staff College. Mr. McNutt accepts military discharge and military law related cases. Most recently, he was successful in obtaining an upgrade in an enlisted serviceman's discharge from the Board for Correction of Naval Records. He has appeared in military-related cases in the United States Court of Federal Claims, Washington, D.C., and the United States District Court for Central District of Illinois. In October, 1996, he argued a military discharge case on appeal in the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C.
